How long does a website redesign take for a builder?
Short answer
A small site can take a few days and a large one several months. A WordPress.com guide puts a small site built by an agency at 2 to 4 days and a medium one at 2 to 4 weeks, and WebFX says a redesign takes one to six months. Ready content, quick approvals and staying on your platform keep you at the short end. Katsa’s home page rebuild goes live within seven days of your go-ahead.
What the published estimates say
| Source | What it measures | Time |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress.com, agency or in-house team | A small site | 2 to 4 days |
| WordPress.com, agency or in-house team | A medium site | 2 to 4 weeks |
| WordPress.com, agency or in-house team | A large site | 6 to 10 weeks |
| WordPress.com, do it yourself on a site builder | A small site | A few hours to 2 weeks |
| WebFX, a web design agency | A website redesign | One to six months |
| WebFX | Its own custom website builds | 12 weeks on average |
The WordPress.com figures are in its guide to build times by Shreelekha Singh, updated October 29, 2026. Its summary counts a small site as five pages or fewer, and the figures cover the time to launch, not later upkeep.
WebFX’s are on its redesign services page. We read both on November 4, 2026.
What decides how long yours takes
- How many pages. WordPress.com says the more pages, integrations or custom features you add, the more development time it takes.
- Whether the content is ready. Photos of your finished projects and the facts about your work have to come from you, so the pages can only move as fast as those arrive.
- Who signs off. WordPress.com warns that conflicting feedback from different people can stall a project for weeks, and WebFX names feedback rounds as one of the things that set its timeline.
- Scope that grows. WordPress.com notes that scope creep can start with one added page and set a project back by months.
- A platform or domain move, covered in the next section.
Extra time when you change platform or domain
A move adds work after launch. Google’s site move guide says a medium-sized site can take a few weeks or more before Google shows the new page addresses, and to keep redirects in place generally at least a year.
Domain transfers add their own wait. Squarespace says a transfer away can take up to 15 days, and Wix’s guide says a domain can’t move within 60 days of purchase or of a change to its registrant contact.
Staying on your platform skips both. Staying or moving covers when a move is still worth it.
How to keep a redesign on schedule
- Pick your best project photos before the work starts.
- Name one person who approves the pages.
- Agree on the page list up front and put extras in a second phase, as WordPress.com suggests.
- Keep your page addresses unless there’s a reason to change them.
- Ask for the launch date in writing, and what moves it.
Katsa’s timeline for the home page
Katsa rebuilds one page, the home page, inside the platform your site already runs on. It goes live within seven days of your go-ahead.
If we’re waiting on you, for a photo or an answer, the date moves by the days we wait. You see the finished page on your own site before it goes live and before you pay.
A full site comes after the home page and runs on its own schedule. It starts at $9,000. Begin it within 30 days of the page going live and the home page price comes off it. Redesign or fix helps you decide whether you need one.
Questions
Will my site be down during a redesign?
It doesn’t have to be. Wix only makes changes live when you publish, and Squarespace lets you try a new look without permanent changes to the live site.
Is the home page quicker than a full redesign?
Yes, because it’s one page. Katsa’s rebuild goes live within seven days of the go-ahead, and the rest of the site can follow from the fix list that comes with it.
