What 171 builder and remodeler home pages show
In short
On October 30, 2026, Katsa read the home pages of 171 builder and remodeler websites listed in home builder association and NARI member directories. 67% link no privacy page. 23% show no phone number at all, and of the sites that do show one, 28% had no tap-to-call link when we opened them on a phone on November 4, 2026.
What we found
Each number is a share of the 171 home pages in the review, unless its label names a smaller group. Those smaller groups are the sites where a measure can apply, such as sites that show a phone number.

Duda and GoDaddy sites count in the totals, but there are too few of them for a column of their own. The footer year and the free email measure aren’t split by platform, because too few Wix and Squarespace home pages show a year or an address to compare fairly.
Note
None of the saved Wix pages showed an analytics tag. That points to a limit of reading saved pages rather than to the Wix sites themselves, so we don’t report this measure for Wix.
What each finding means for your site
- No privacy page: your contact form collects names, phone numbers and email addresses, and a privacy page tells clients what you do with them. See what a builder’s privacy page needs.
- No phone number: a client who’s ready to call has to go looking, so the number belongs in the header. See the home page checklist.
- No tap-to-call link: some phones spot a plain number on their own, but not all of them do, and a tel: link calls with one tap on any phone. See how to make your number tap-to-call.
- An old copyright year: it reads as a site nobody has touched in a while, and in most footers it’s a one-line change. See the home page checklist.
- No email address, or one at a free provider: an address at your own domain carries your company name and stays yours if you switch email services. See who owns your website and domain.
- No analytics tag: without one, or your platform’s own stats, you can’t tell how many people visit before they call. See the WordPress guide.
- No viewport tag: a phone’s browser gets no hint about the page width, which usually points to an old theme. See whether to redesign or fix.
- An HTTPS problem: a certificate that doesn’t match your address, or a page that falls back to http://, comes from hosting or domain settings, so start there. See whether to redesign or fix.
- Word count: a long page doesn’t win work by itself; what counts is whether the words say what you build and where. See the home page checklist.
- Platform: every platform in the table has sites with these gaps, so a move to another platform won’t close them by itself. See which platform suits a builder.
Common issues we saw
We describe these in general terms, so nobody can pick out a site from them.
- A contact section that shows a form plugin’s shortcode, in square brackets, instead of the form.
- A phone number in the header as plain text, with no link.
- A footer that still shows a copyright year from more than ten years ago.
- A privacy link that goes to Google’s reCAPTCHA policy under the form, with no privacy page of the firm’s own.
- A security certificate issued for a different address than the one the directory lists.
- A home page that’s only a slideshow and the menu, with no text that says what the firm builds.
- A web address in a member directory that now shows a parked-domain page. We leave sites like these out of the numbers, because there’s no home page to read.
How we did the review
We took the member websites listed in the builder categories of the HBA of Metro Denver, the Western Ohio Home Builders Association, the Racine Kenosha Builders Association and HBAMT in Middle Tennessee, plus the full member lists of NARI Silicon Valley and NARI Greater Phoenix. We read the directories and the home pages on October 30, 2026, and every measure comes from the pages saved that day.
A site is in the review when the directory lists it under a builder or remodeler category and its home page loaded. The two NARI lists have no categories, so a site there also needs a title, description or main heading that names building or remodeling work and doesn’t sell marketing, lending, supplies or another service to builders. Before we read any page, the directory step set aside members whose names mark them as large production builders or as a supplier or trade, such as a name with lumber or roofing in it, and NARI members whose names have no building or remodeling word.
We left out listed sites whose home page returned an error, showed a bot check, a parked domain or a “coming soon” placeholder, or was an empty shell that shows no text until scripts run. Each website counts once, and nothing about a site’s problems decides whether it’s in. Sites found through Craigslist ads aren’t part of this review.
- Phone number: a 10-digit US number in the page’s visible text, or a tel: link.
- Tap-to-call: on November 4, 2026 we opened each home page that showed a phone number in a phone browser profile, with JavaScript on, and looked for a link that starts with tel:. Wix and Duda add these links only to the phone version of a page, which a saved desktop page doesn’t show. Pages that didn’t load that day are left out of this measure, and a phone that links a plain number on its own doesn’t count.
- Email address: an address in the visible text or in a mailto: link, including one the page shows through spam protection. The free providers are the domains in the note below.
- Privacy page: a link on the home page whose address or text contains “privacy”, not counting links to Google’s or the platform’s own policies, such as the reCAPTCHA notice under a form.
- Copyright year: the latest year after ©, (c) or “Copyright” in the visible text. A year before 2025 counts as old.
- Analytics tag: Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar, Matomo, Plausible, Fathom, Simple Analytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics, Jetpack Stats, HubSpot, Adobe Analytics, Heap or StatCounter in the page’s code. This measure leaves Wix sites out.
- Viewport tag: a meta tag named viewport, which tells a phone’s browser what width to lay the page out at.
- HTTPS problem: the https:// address failed its certificate or connection check, so the page loaded only over http://, or the page ended on an http:// address.
- Word count: words in the visible text of the home page, menus and footer included, with scripts and styles left out.
- Platform: read from the page’s generator tag, its server headers and the hosts its files load from, such as static.wixstatic.com for Wix, static1.squarespace.com for Squarespace, cdn-website.com for Duda, img1.wsimg.com for GoDaddy and /wp-content/ for WordPress. Custom builds, Webflow, Framer and every other platform count as other.
Note
Free email providers counted: gmail.com, googlemail.com, yahoo.com, ymail.com, rocketmail.com, aol.com, aim.com, hotmail.com, outlook.com, live.com, msn.com, icloud.com, me.com, mac.com, protonmail.com, proton.me, gmx.com, gmx.us, mail.com, zoho.com, yandex.com, comcast.net, att.net, sbcglobal.net, bellsouth.net, verizon.net, cox.net, charter.net, spectrum.net, earthlink.net, juno.com, netzero.net, roadrunner.com, rr.com, frontier.com, frontiernet.net, centurylink.net, q.com, windstream.net, optonline.net, optimum.net, mchsi.com, tds.net, embarqmail.com and suddenlink.net, with their subdomains.
We round percentages to whole numbers. Every numerator and denominator is in the aggregate table (CSV).
What these numbers can’t tell you
These are members of home builder associations and NARI chapters in Colorado, Ohio, Wisconsin, Tennessee, California and Arizona, not every builder in the US. Builders who join an association and list a website may run their sites differently from those who don’t.
It’s one moment in time: we read each home page once, on October 30, 2026, and sites change. We read only the home page as the server sent it, without running its scripts, so a privacy page linked from another page, or a year a script writes into the footer, doesn’t count.
Visitor stats that a platform keeps on its own servers leave no tag in the page, so a site with no tag may still count its visits. Sites that failed over both https and http count as not loaded rather than as HTTPS problems, so that number is a floor.
How to use these numbers
Hold your own home page up against each line in “What we found”, and fix the gaps that keep a client from calling first. If you quote a number, quote the date with it: Katsa’s review of 171 builder and remodeler websites, read on October 30, 2026.
Note
The aggregate table lists each measure with its numerator, denominator and percentage, for all sites and for WordPress, Wix and Squarespace. It holds no company names, web addresses or phone numbers.
Questions
Why aren’t Craigslist ads part of the review?
Firms that advertise on Craigslist are a different group from directory members, and their ads turned up through search terms. We keep them out rather than mix two kinds of sample.
Can I see which sites were in the review?
No. We publish totals only, so nobody can pick out a builder from the numbers.
Will these numbers change?
Yes, when we read the directories again. Each refresh replaces the numbers and the read date.
