Website design for custom home builders: what your home page has to show
In short
A custom home builder’s home page has to show a client four things near the top: homes you’ve finished, the towns where you build, how a build with you works, and a phone number that calls you with one tap. Katsa rebuilds that page inside the platform your site already runs on, using only your own photos and facts.
The five parts, for a custom builder
Katsa builds every home page from the same five parts, and on a custom home builder website each one carries something specific. The general list for any builder or remodeler is on the home page checklist.
Header
Your company name and your phone number. One tap on a phone calls you.
Headline
What you build and where, in one line, beside a photo of a home you finished. For example: “Custom homes on your land in Sonoma County.”
Photos
Your best three finished homes, taken from your own site.
Facts
Three things a client looks for, each taken from your site, such as whether you build on the client’s lot, your license number or the warranty you give.
Footer
A current year, your address and a link to your privacy policy.
The homes you’ve built
A client is choosing who builds their house, so every photo near the top should be a home you finished: no stock photos, and no renderings that look built. Katsa uses the photos already on your site, and if you have better ones, you send them and we use those.
Pick three that differ, such as a full exterior, a kitchen and a room with your best finish work. Caption each with the town and the kind of home, because Google’s image guidelines say Google reads captions, file names and alt text to work out what a photo shows, and “Two-story farmhouse, Petaluma” tells it far more than IMG_0412.
Note
A step for today: open your site on your phone and check that the first photo you see is a home you built.
Where you build
Put the towns or counties where you build in the headline, in the words a client would type into a search, and say whether you build on the client’s land, on your own lots or both.
If you have a Google Business Profile, use the same places there. Google lets a service-area business list up to 20 service areas, set by city or postal code rather than as a radius, and asks that the whole area stay within about two hours’ drive of your base.
Note
A step for today: compare the towns on your home page with the ones in your Business Profile and make the two lists match.
How a build with you works
Show the order of work in three or four short lines, in your own words, such as first meeting, design and pricing, the build and handover. Then link to the page on your site that covers it in full.
If your site doesn’t describe your process yet, write it down before anyone rebuilds the page. Katsa takes every line from your site or from you, so it won’t make one up.
How clients reach you
Your phone number belongs in the header as a tap-to-call link, and the tap-to-call page shows how to add one on each platform. Show an email address too, on your own domain if you have one.
28%
In the footer, a current year and a privacy page that opens show a client that someone still looks after the site. The privacy policy page covers what that page should say.
24%
Both numbers come from Katsa’s review of 171 builder and remodeler websites, with every site read on October 30, 2026.
How Katsa rebuilds the page
We read your site
We take your photos, towns and facts from the site you have now and build the new home page around them. Every claim on it comes from your site or from you.
We build inside your platform
The page goes into the account your site already runs on, whether that’s Wix, Squarespace, WordPress or Duda, so it stays yours.
You see it first
You see the finished page on your own site before it goes live and before you pay anything. It goes live within seven days of your go-ahead.
You pay once it’s live
The rebuild costs $2,500, one time, by card or invoice, and includes a fix list for the rest of your site. What a redesign costs puts that price next to the other ways to do it.
Note
If we’re waiting on you for something, the go-live date moves by the days we wait.
Questions
Do I have to leave Wix or Squarespace to get a better home page?
No. Katsa rebuilds the page inside the platform your site runs on now, and staying or moving covers when a move does make sense.
What about the rest of my site?
The rebuild covers the home page and comes with a fix list for the other pages. A full site starts at $9,000, and if one starts within 30 days of the page going live, the home page price comes off it. Redesign or fix helps you decide which you need.
